Certain members of Kasambya sub-county have organized together for the common purpose of initiating a computer centre to be used for training and public usage, primarily targeting secondary school students and teachers, school drop-outs, and vocation-specific training for adults. The community is mobilizing funds and in-kind donations to the sum of 8.606 million Ugandan Shillings (mUSH), including the donation of a location and renovation costs. This contribution is 25.70% of the total costs for the project. Kasambya Community Computer Centre is requesting external support to provide the remaining components, including 8.899 mUSH for hardware purchases, 12.5116 mUSH for a back-up battery system to protect equipment and provide power during periods of load-shedding, 2.484 mUSH for initial Internet costs, and 0.98 mUSH for furnishing of the future site. Through a combination of support from a United States Peace Corps Partnership grant and donors within country, the group is confident that their vision can be realized for the betterment of the residents of Mubende district.
What value can we create together? e.g. learning, income, impact:
The Organisation/ Project plan to give educational support through IT research skills training to 30 students from 5 local schools in 2010/2011 in order to improve their academic performance. This increased enrolment by students will further help to raise awareness in the community about the role that computers can play in education and the benefits that can be gained by students. The raised awareness and improved academic results of the students in 2010/ 2011 will help to solidify the role of KCCC in the community and ensure its future viability.
- Trainings regarding the use of IT for students and the benefits that can be reaped if properly implemented given to parents and teachers from five local schools (April 2008)
-Teaching of general computer knowledge as well as educational support for primary and secondary students (May-November 2008)
-Improve the overall membership of primary and secondary students, especially targeting girls, in 2008.
-Improving the academic results of all students enrolled simultaneously in a partner school and the KCCC in 2008.
-Improve the long-term membership prospects by integrating the curriculum of local schools into Kasambya Community Computer Centre, thus ensuring the sustainability of the project
-Improve the overall income of the centre long-term such that a cash reserve can be kept for maintenance costs and expansion plans.
