How Dreamfish Works

Dreamfish is a person-to-person work cooperative.

  • The Dreamfish mission is to connect people, through micro-work networking,
  • to help people realize their dreams and alleviate poverty. We work from anywhere.

  • We use lots of ways to connect -- from sitting together in person, to talking on a call,
  • chatting in the Chat Cafe, to working in the Project Hub.

A story of a few Dreamfishers:

  • Juanita, a Job Provider, with a health care project in South America
  • Pete, a Worker and Job Provider, as a technology consultant
  • Maiya, a Worker, as a web developer

1. Service Learning

Maiya and Pete join Dreamfish because they want to make a difference. Maiya joins to alleviate poverty in emerging markets by building software. Pete joins to mentor entrepreneurs.

Pete learns about building his several businesses in a Dreamfish Group. In his Practice Group, he learns how to communicate with clients, and he shares his expertise in project management. In a Dreamfish group, Pete meets Maiya, who lives in Panama. Together, they work on a project to build Dreamfish.

2. Selling and Hiring

Juanita, a new member, has a project. Her project is creating an online community for her workers who send her medical supplies from Europe. Juanita  creates a project on Dreamfish to hire a technologist to help her. Pete sees Juanita's project, visits her profile and decides to send her a message.

3. Collaborating and managing

They meet with a Skype call and a collaborative note pad, and use Dreamfish How-Tos to agree upon how to work together. Juanita then hires Pete and invites Pete to join her Project. Dreamfish helps Pete stay connected with Juanita while he works on multiple projects. Pete creates a visionary Technology Plan with Juanita, using the Project space for task management and collaborative writing. Juanita is happy with the plan. Next, she creates a new project, to build the online community, and hires Pete again.

Juanita stays in sync, and gets email notifications of work progress. They meet on the Meeting Pad for meetings. They manage their tasks in the project workspace.

4. Creating value

Pete is inspired by Maiya's work on South American health care projects. He values Maiya's service projects to build the cooperative..

Dreamfish makes it easy and flexible for Maiya to live anywhere, and do the kind of work that makes her heart sing.  Maiya is in Dreamfish Chat while she is working on stuff. Pete says hello in Chat channel, tells her about the project he is doing for Juanita, and hires Maiya.

5. Paying a worker

Maiya bills her service at a lower rate to Pete, because she experiences value in contributing to the social impact the project will make. Pete passes the savings on to Juanita. Juanita saves money, and now thousands of her workers are more connected. As Pete and Maiya are paid, they each keep 90% of their earnings and contribute 10% to Dreamfish as their Give-as-you-grow tithe.

6. Growing our cooperative

At the end of the year, the cooperative has a surplus of money, which is shared among all the members. Because Maiya, Pete and Juanita chipped in Give-as-you-grow fees and helped out, serving on a community council, they each get money back and service credits. As each of us grow, we all grow together.
