City: Raleigh Region: United States Website URL: http://Ken.Coar.Org/burrow/ About: I've been a farm worker, strike breaker in a bearing factory, camp counselor, author, speaker, minor pundit, NGO VP, NGO board member, systems analyst, and bone-idle, all at various times in my life. I've been happily married since 1984. I've been a software developer for over three decades. When I became involved in open software, I started finding out what I really wanted to do when I grew up. When I started writing articles and books, and traveling to give presentations, it firmed up even more. I want a global village. In The Shockwave Rider (first published in 1975), John Brunner includes the following propositions:
1. "That this is a rich planet. Therefore poverty and hunger are unworthy of it, and since we can abolish them, we must." I have found those very inspiring for more than a quarter-century, and moreso as time goes on. I've merged them into a statement for my own guidance (only recently actually spelt out, even for myself):
Not everyone does -- or will -- agree with that perspective, but it pretty nicely defines what I want to do when I grow up: use my knowledge, skills, and talents to lessen the inequalities.
offers: Virtual Assistance - Technical, Group Facilitation, Engineering - Software, Education and Training, community management, Coaching and Mentorship Creating Value: What kind of value do you want? Social impact, Achievement, Learning, Security? Work experience? Income?: I want to contribute to Making This A Better World™. I'm smart, knowledgeable, able to communicate well, and capable of great passion. So I want to use that to help others make things better for themselves. I guess that makes me a potential mentor/facilitator/educator/teacher/writer/whatever. |
