What are your dreams for your life and work? How can members help you?:

I see the opportunity of becoming involved in Dreamfish as being able to contribute to a wider community and to benefit from the wisdom and enthusiasm of that community. Specifically I would like to learn more about the potential for building online communities; because I am trying to do likewise with children’s activists in Tanzania, East Africa. I am also interested to explore how technology can be used for social transformation. Currently I coordinate a national campaign against violence against children in Tanzania and we are exploring how to use SMS messages to poll national attitudes towards parenting, with a view to tracking how attitudes shift over time as a result of our public education campaign.

I currently mentor and support a number of local non-governmental organizations in Tanzania, and coach young men who have grown up on the streets. I would like the opportunity to volunteer in a more culturally diverse context; to learn from others across the world and to locate myself more concretely in a global community of people who are striving to make a difference.

Creating Value: What kind of value do you want? Social impact, Achievement, Learning, Security? Work experience? Income?:

I support and mentor a number of young leaders who work in the field of child rights in Tanzania, seeking to make violence against children socially and legally unacceptable. Many of these leaders struggle to deal with the day to day fire fighting that running their organisations entails and I would love to use Dreamfish to link them to like minded people who can assist them with technical expertise, mentorship and fellowship.

Personally, I would like to feel connected to a wider community of people who believe, as I do, that human development as a society starts with us as individuals. People who appreciate that we all have more than one self - and who are open to expressing that multiplicity of selves - with all its complexity.

About:

If someone was talking about me with love and affection they would say ‘Kate wants the world to be a better place and lives by her values of compassion and commitment. She is caring and loving, centred and balanced’. These are all values that underpin my practice as a coach, facilitator, researcher and activist.

My work is about helping people to become more conscious, and by becoming more conscious better able to contribute to a just world. I operate at three different levels; with individuals, with groups and with larger systemic change.

Whether I am working with an individual client, a child or a group the same principles apply. I am a facilitator of their development not an expert adviser. I work with individuals to deepen their understanding of reality and to help them to become more capable of participating in the unfolding of the world. I want to help others to better know their multiple selves and to bring them to play in their leadership. Self-knowledge and understanding is the fount of all change; organisational and societal transformation begins with the individual.
